Raymond J. Szumigraj, 61, of Selinsgrove, entered into eternal rest on Friday, Jan. 6, 2018, at home after a long nine and a half months hard fought battle with cancer.
He was born April 14, 1956, in Norristown, a son of the late Roman and Margaret (Prusak) Szumigraj. Ray attended schools in Lansford and graduated from Panther Valley High in 1974. After high school he attended Geisinger School of Nursing and graduated in 1978.?

On Aug. 26, 1978, he married the former Brenda Humme in St. Peter and Paul's Roman Catholic Church in Lansford.

He is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Amanda and Jason Holschwander; two sons and one daughter-in-law, Jeremy and Stacey Szumigraj, and Nicholas Szumigraj; one sister and brother-in-law, Maryann and John Fada; mother-in-law, Dorothy Humme; and several nieces and nephews. Ray's greatest joys in life were his five grandsons, Noah and Maxie Holschwander, Joseph, Liam, and Wyatt Szumigraj, who lovingly called him, "Pappy Grinch."
Ray was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, David Szumigraj; and his father-in-law, Joseph Humme.

Ray retired after working 35 years as an registered nurse at the Danville State Hospital. He enjoyed his work and the friends he made there so much that he worked three more years after retirement.?
