Randall E. Smith


Randall E. Smith, 87, of Decker Road, Middleburg, passed away early Sunday morning, May 12, 2019, at RiverWoods, Lewisburg.
He was born April 29, 1932, in rural Middleburg, a son of the late Herman and Clara (Bowersox) Smith. On June 24, 1951, he married the former Nancy L. Decker who preceded him in death on Sept. 14, 2003.
Randall was a 1951 graduate of Middle burg High School.
He was employed at Faylor-Middlecreek Construction where he retired as a superintendent. Following his retirement, he farmed.
He was a member of Zion United Methodist Church, Middleburg, and had also attended Faith Community Church, Middleburg. He was a member of the Middleburg Moose Lodge, the Reliance Hose Company, Middleburg, the Penns Creek Volunteer Fire Company, the Rescue Hose Company, Beavertown, and the National Rife Association.
Randall was an avid hunter, but the great passion of his life was farming.
He is survived by one daughter, Joni E. Smith-Vayda and her husband John, of Middleburg; one son, Dr. Dennis R. Smith and his wife Fran, of Lewisburg; three grandsons, Jason and Jeffrey Schmucker and Matthew Smith; his sister-in-law and companion, Tess Decker of Middleburg; one sister, Romaine Scholl of Shamokin Dam; two brothers, Stoy Smith and Ken Smith, both of Middleburg; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Stanley and Richard Smith.
A viewing will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 15, at the Hummel Funeral Home, 574 Hill St., Middleburg. A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 16, at Zion United Methodist Church, Zion Church Road, Middleburg, with the Rev. Thomas Adams Jr., officiating.
Burial will be in the adjoining church cemetery.

Loved stopping by at Randall’s house anytime, but usually when he was outside or on the porch, just to say “Hi” to him & Tess and talk a bit about what was going on with him or our family. Almost always honked my horn going by on my way to work, running kids somewhere or just passing thru. You will be missed!!!
