Ralph W. Hasenbalg, 82, of St. Augustine, Fla., passed away on March 12, 2017 at the Bailey Family Center for Caring in St. Augustine.
He was a son of the late Werner and Ellen (Westberg) Hasenbalg of Binghamton, N.Y., where he grew up.
In 1958, he graduated from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute where he received his bachelors of science in engineering management. He was a two sport athlete at RPI and served as captain of both the basketball and golf team. Upon graduation he served his country in the Air force from 1958-1966. Ralph was a pilot and served dozen of missions in the Vietnam War.
After being honorably discharged from the Air Force, Ralph lived in Saugerties, N.Y. where he was employed by IBM. While at IBM he worked a variety of management roles throughout his 30-year career. In 2016, he moved to St. Augustine with his wife, daughter and son-in-law.
Above all, Ralph loved his family and sports. He was a devoted husband, loving father, and grandfather, known affectionately as "Pepe". Those that knew him admired that he was "quick to listen, slow to speak and not given to anger"
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Francoise Hasenbalg; daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Jim Guske (Jim); sons, Norm Hasenbalg (Denise Starkey), of Catskill, N.Y., Marc Hasenbalg (Rahnee), of West Nyack, N.Y., Michael Hasenbalg (Elizabeth), of Saugerties, N.Y., Scott Hasenbalg (Kerry), of Danville, Pa.; grandchildren, Robert Hasenbalg, Amanda Hasenbalg, Jake Hasenbalg, Zach Hasenbalg, Cole Hasenbalg, Maya Hasenbalg, Hunter Guske, Leah Hasenbalg, and Annika Hasenbalg; and daughter in-law, Maureen McKeon.
They are having a private family service.
