Pietro Amato, 86, of Sunbury, passed away on Sunday, July 8, 2018, after a long battle with dementia.
He was born in Palermo, Sicily on Aug. 18, 1931. He was married to the former Sarina Finazzo, who survives. They celebrated 55 years of marriage this year.
While still living in Italy, Pietro served as a member of the police force. He went on to open additional Amato's Pizza locations in Northumberland and Selinsgrove which are still owned and operated by his sons today.
Pietro loved his family and friends, his wife's cooking, and gardening. He respected and appreciated all of his restaurant's customers, always greeting them with a hand shake and often a kiss on the cheek. Pietro will be fondly remembered by those who knew him.
In addition to his wife, Pietro is survived by two sons, Aurelio Amato of Northumberland and Marcello Amato of Selinsgrove; seven grandchildren; and one great-grandson.
He was preceded in death by two sons, Giuseppe and Girolamo "Jerry" Amato.
