Peter A. Cooper, 88, of Hilkert Road, Danville, passed away Thursday, Sept. 8, 2016, at his son's home.
Born in Liberty Township, Montour County, on July 6, 1928, he was the son of the late Henry C. and Florence M. (Tanner) Cooper. Peter was married to the former Patricia K. Yost on April 13, 1952, and celebrated 64 years of marriage.
Peter was a 1946 graduate of Milton High School, and later attended Bucknell and Rutgers universities. Also he was in the Army Air Corp during World War II serving as a Sergeant.
During his childhood he held jobs of delivering papers and magazines, and later working at American Food and Morris Budman Auto Body Shop. While at college Peter worked at Azinger Furniture Store in Milton and for the Pennsylvania Railroads. After he was married, he worked at Azingers Furniture, then Glassin Paper Company as a chemist in Philadelphia. From there he went to work at SKF Ball Bearing Company in Philadelphia as a study engineer, and at Lycoming Motors in Williamsport as a time study engineer. After moving to New Jersey he took a job with Hubeny Brothers in Quality Control in Rosell Park and Metal Textile as a quality control engineer. Finally when he moved back to Pennsylvania he worked as a salesman for Metropolitan Life Insurance Company until his retirement.
He was a former member of Pottsgrove Presbyterian Church, St. John's Reform Church of McEwensville, and Isilin Presbyterian Church of Isilin, N.J. Currently he was a member of Grove Presbyterian Church, Danville, were he was a Deacon and member of the session, couple's club and breakfast club.
Peter was a member of Milton Aviation Club and CAP Civil Air Patrol. He enjoyed fishing, camping, traveling and working in his work shop.
Surviving in addition to his wife, are one son, Peter A. (Linda) Cooper Jr., of Danville; one daughter, Elaine B. (David) Thomas, of Danville; grandchildren, Daniel and Stacie Thomas, Peter Cooper III, and Kerri and Phil Bailey; and one great-granddaughter, Katrina Cooper.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Calvin Cooper; and three sisters, Lucille Zimmerman, Glayds Von Woeit, and Bernice Christopherson.
Friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 13, 2016, at Grove Presbyterian Church, 332 Bloom Road, Danville, where the funeral service follow at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Robert John Andrews officiating.
Following the service burial will take place in Presbyterian Cemetery, McEwensville.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggest memorial contributions in Peter's memory be made to Grove Presbyterian Church, or VNA Hospice, 21 W. Independence S., Shamokin, PA 17872.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Brooks Funeral Home & Cremation Svc PC, 207 Broadway St., Turbotville.
