Peggy R. Mowery, 88, of Harrisburg passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by her family, Thursday, July 12, 2018.
Peggy was born in Shamokin and was the daughter of the late Joseph and E. Mae Rakoskie. Peggy graduated from Coal Township High School in 1947, where she played basketball and was active in chorus and musicals. She was very proud to be a Coal Township Purple Demon.
Peggy was a retired telephone operator with Bell Telephone and later with Sunbury Community Hospital. She was a member of the Salem United Church of Christ in Shamokin where she was active in the choir. She was a member of Bell Telephone Pioneers of America and participated in bowling leagues in Sunbury. Peggy enjoyed musicals and big band music, as well as singing, traveling and shopping. She was an avid fan of WWE Wrestling and Penn State Football, and loved her great?grandson, who always brightened her day.
Peggy was predeceased by her sister, Shirley Whary.
Peggy is survived by her husband of 63 years, Archie M. Mowery; her daughter, Kathy L. (Michael) Ritzel; her granddaughter, Lynlee A. (Rustin) Sheeler; and her great?grandson, Kolton Z. Sheeler, all of Harrisburg.
A visitation will be held Wednesday from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Jerre Wirt Blank Funeral Home, 395 State Street, Sunbury, followed by the funeral at 11, with Rev. G. Barry Stahl officiating.
Inurnment will be in Northumberland Memorial Park, Sunbury.
