Paul Richard "Dick" Gass, 86, formerly of Danville, passed away on Monday, June 12, 2017, at Senior Care of Kulpmont, Kulpmont.
He was born April 19, 1931, in Danville, a son of the late Paul Landis and Anna Freida (Swigart) Gass. He was married for 36 years to the former Sara Jane McClenahen who preceded him in death on Jan. 2, 1992. They were married on Sept. 8, 1956. He was also married to the late Dorothy Rothermel.
Dick graduated from Danville High School in 1948. He served his country in the Army as a corporal from 1952-1954.
He was employed for 37 years as a warehouse supervisor for Merck and Co. Inc., retiring in 1988.
Dick was a member of Shiloh United Church of Christ, Danville, where he served on the Consistory. His other memberships included Danville American Legion Post 40, Danville Elks, East End Fire Company, past board member of the American Lung Association of Central Pennsylvania, Thomas Beaver Free Library board member from 1984-1988, and was the director of Montour County Civil Defense from 1970-1971. He also served as a Republican Committeeman for Mahoning Township from 1970-1976. Dick volunteered for the Danville Ambulance and was a dedicated longtime volunteer for the Donald P. Vrabec House of Care, Danville.
Dick enjoyed coin collecting and playing golf. He was well known for his friendly smile and his social wellbeing. Many loving memories will be cherished by his friends, family, and his grandchildren whom he adored.
He is survived by three daughters and two sons-in-law, Sharon L. and Eric Pilker, of Bostic, N.C., Debra K. Feaster and Brenda J. and David Faverio, of Smithtown, N.Y.; seven grandchildren, Sean, Chad, Emma, Alessia, Elena, Cayla and Corey; three great-grandchildren, Landis, Adalene and Maxwell; and two nieces and one nephew.
He was preceded in death by one granddaughter, Dawn Nicole Feaster on Sept. 14, 2014; and one sister, Marjorie Grimm.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a celebration of Dick's life at 3 p.m. Friday at Visneski Funeral Home Inc., 10 W. Mahoning St., Danville, with the Rev. Mary B. Schmotzer, of Shiloh United Church of Christ, Danville. officiating. Friends will be received from 2 to 3 p.m. prior to the service.
Burial will be held in Odd Fellows Cemetery, Danville, with military rites accorded by the American Legion Post 40 Honor Guard.
