Norma L. Haines Ettinger, 83, of Selinsgrove, passed away unexpectedly on Feb. 27, 2018, at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville with her family by her side.
She was born Jan. 12, 1935, in Troxelville, a daughter of the late Marlin and Madeline (Norman) Haines. She was married to K. Lewis Ettinger on December 7, 1952. They recently celebrated 65 years of marriage.
She was a member of Beaver Vocational High School Class of 1953.
As a young adult, Norma worked for Mildred Stumpff General Store in Middlereek, Snyder County. Following her job at the general store, she worked part time at Mattern's Grocery Store. After moving from Beaver Springs to Selinsgrove, Norma began employment for the Selinsgrove School District where she worked as head cook for the Selinsgrove Area Middle School for 30 years.
In her earlier years, Norma was an active member of the Beaver Lutheran Church, Beaver Springs, where she served a number of roles including custodial work and a leader of a Girl Scout Brownie Troop. Most recently, Norma was a member of Sharon Lutheran Church, Selinsgrove where she has been a member for many years.
Norma was known for her "green thumb" which led her to a love for flowers. She also loved spending time at the family cabin located in McAlisterville. She was extremely involved in her grandchildren's lives, consistently attending their activities and sporting events.
In addition to her husband, Norma is survived by one brother, Bill Haines and his wife, Joy; one sister, Marlene Shawver; two sons, Stanley and his wife Cindy, and Douglas and his wife Lori; one daughter, Susan Kerstetter and her husband, Nelson; seven grandchildren, Jimmy Kaufman, Jason Kauffman and his wife, Felicia, Melissa Moyer and her husband, Jerry, Heather Loss and companion Rod Lukens, Vince Loss, Rachel Ettinger, Aaron and his wife Jamie, and Abby Ettinger; and four great-grandchildren, Dawson Moyer, Hunter Kaufman, Hanna Kaufman, and Austin Davy.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Barbara Haines; one brother, Donald Haines; and one brother-in-law, Terry Shawver.
A visitation will be held 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday and from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday, followed by the funeral at 11, at the V.L. Seebold Funeral Home, 601 N. High St., Selinsgrove, with Pastor Robert Doll officiating.
Burial will follow in Salem Lutheran Cemetery.
