Milford A. Smith
He was born Nov. 21, 1924, in Middlecreek Township, Snyder County, a son of the late Clemmon and Ellen (Walter) Smith. On July 11, 1942, he married the former Gladys J. Reich who survives.
Milford attended the Gilbert School, rural Middleburg.
He had farmed for most of his life, and had also worked at the Middleburg Tannery. After leaving the farm he had been employed at Agri Concrete, Wood Mode, Glass Brothers Construction, and last as a night watchman at Bingaman and Son Lumber.
He was currently the oldest member of Hummel's United Methodist Church, Middleburg, where he once served as a Sunday school teacher and on the cemetery committee.
Milford was an avid coon hunter and was a member of the Union County Coon Hunters Association. He recently spent his past time building box traps for coons. He enjoyed working in his truck patch garden and on his Massey-Ferguson tractor. Milford's greatest joy were his grandchildren.
In addition to his wife of 76 years, he is survived by seven children and their spouses, Joyce A. Bollinger of Winfield, Judy F. and Earl Hollenbach, Mary C. and William Newman, Thomas R. and Linda Smith, David E. and Jean Smith, James A. and Joan Smith, Douglas S. and Miriam Smith, and daughter-in-law, Linda Smith, all of Middleburg; 20 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one son, Wayne A. Smith; two granddaughters; one son-in-law, John Bollinger; and eight siblings, Ezra, Herman, Ralph, Alvin, and Willard Smith, and Mary Heimbach, Catherine Reich, and Fay Lytle.
Friends and family will be received from 9 to 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 28, at Hummel's United Methodist Church, 427 Sassafras Road, Middleburg, followed by the funeral at 11, with Pastor Carvel K. May officiating.
Burial will be in the adjoining church cemetery.
Contributions to honor Milford's memory may be made to the building fund of Hummel's United Methodist Church.
Arrangements are by the Hummel Funeral Home, 574 Hill St., Middleburg.
