Mildred Marateck, 95, of Fort Myers, Fla., formerly of Shamokin, Pa., passed away on Oct. 25, 2017.
She was born Dec. 11, 1921, in Mahoney City, Pa., a daughter of the late Isadore and Fanny (Freidberg) Oberson. On June 30,1946, she married Sanford S. Marateck and their union lasted 69 years until Sanford's death in November 2015.
Millie graduated from Mahoney City High School in 1938. She was the valedictorian of her high school class and after graduation attended McCann School of Business.
She worked in Washington, D.C. for the Department of Navy during World War II.
She was a member of B'Nai Israel Synagogue, Shamokin, where she was active with its Sisterhood and Hadassah. She organized bus trips to Broadway for many years as a fundraiser. She was also a member of Congregation Beth El, Sunbury, and Temple Judea, Fort Myers.
She was a homemaker and was devoted to her family. She was an avid reader, enjoyed traveling, was a fantastic cook, and volunteered for many years on the food cart at the Shamokin Hospital.
She is survived by her three children, Arthur Marateck and wife Margaret, of Marietta, Ga., Karen Drake and her husband Barry, of Jacksonville Beach, Fla., and David Marateck and his wife Betsy, of Sunbury, Pa.; six grandchildren, Abigail Marateck and her husband Sam Younis, Juliet Marateck, Geoffrey Drake and his wife Bettina, Stephanie Drake, Lori Marateck Wolf and her husband Evan, and Jill Marateck; five great-grandchildren; and one brother, Arnold Oberson, of Egg Harbor Township, N.J.
She was predeceased by her husband; her parents; her brothers, Saul Supowitz and Calvin Supowitz; and her sister, Florence Tope.
The funeral was held in Fort Myers on Friday, Oct. 27. Shiva will be observed at the residence of David Marateck, from Monday through Wednesday, with a service at 7 p.m.
