Michael J. Poremsky, 67, of Milton, passed away in the arms of his loving wife on Sunday, Nov. 5, 2017, at the Geisinger Home Health & Hospice at Maria Hall, Danville.
He was born July 13, 1950, in Altoona, a son of Mary L (Berrang) Poremsky, of Lewisburg and the late Joseph E. Poremsky. He was married to the former Mary Catherine Hartzel and his death breaks a marital union of 42 years.
Michael was a 1968 graduate of Lewisburg High School and a 1972 graduate of Bloomsburg University.
He had retired from the Milton Area School District where he was an elementary and middle school teacher. After college he served in the Pennsylvania Army National Guard.
Michael was a devout Roman Catholic and was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, Lewisburg. He was a great Notre Dame fan.
He enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren, attending school activities and band performances, going on family vacations to the National Zoo in Washington, D.C., camping, and going to the beach. He loved to grill for extended family functions that he and Mary hosted. He especially loved being with his wife, going to fairs, the movies, or out to dinner.
In addition to his wife and mother, he is survived by three children and their spouses, Matthew and Rebecca Poremsky, of Lewisburg, Michelle and Ryan Maxwell, of Camp Hill, and Melissa and Jeffrey Renn, of Lewisburg; four grandchildren, Owen Maxwell, Chloe Maxwell, Lily Maxwell and Aislinn Duhaime; and four siblings, Philip Poremsky and wife Diane, of Ohio, Stephen Poremsky, of Lewisburg, Jeanine Shipe and husband, Thomas, of Maryland, and Elaine Poremsky, of Lewisburg.
Friends and relatives will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Shaw Funeral Home, 400 N. Front St., Milton. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Friday at Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, 814 St. Louis St., Lewisburg, with the Rev. John D. Hoke as celebrant.
Burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, Milton.
The family wishes to thank all who helped care for Michael with his 2½ year battle with cancer, especially the folks at Maria Hall who made his final days peaceful and comfortable.
