Melvin's Story

Melvin O. Baker, 94, of Green St., Milton, passed away on Saturday, July 9, 2016, at his home following a brief illness.

He was born Feb. 15, 1922, in Williamsport, a son of the late Foster O. and Elsie A. (Bartlett) Baker. He was married to the former Betty H. Frey. His death breaks a marital union of 68 years.

Melvin was a 1940 graduate of Milton High School and graduated from Williamsport Technical Institute. He served in the South Pacific during WW II.

He worked for the Baltimore shipyards prior to the war and after the war for ACF in Milton retiring in 1984. He was also the owner of Baker's Welding since 1946.

Melvin was a member of the Milton American Legion Post 71.

He loved animals and raised peacocks, llamas, and several species of pheasants to name a few.

Melvin is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Linda G. and Lester Swope Jr., of Milton, and Joyce O. and Charles Wagner, of Milton; one son, Randy O. Baker, of Milton; four grandchildren, Chris Wagner, Andrea Williams, Tonya Bardole, and Devin Force; and ten great-grandchildren, Tiffani Wagner, Aubrey Wagner, Kylie Wagner, Marissa Williams, Talya Bardole, Tanner Bardole, Kyle Bardole, Shaylyn Force, Rylan Force, and Tyler Force.

Graveside services with military honors will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday in Harmony Cemetery with the Rev. Robert Morris officiating.

Arrangements are under the care of the Shaw Funeral Home, 400 N. Front St., Milton.
