Maryanne's Story

Text size

Maryanne C. Pinand, 95, formerly of Selinsgrove, passed away Thursday, March 1, 2018, at the Buffalo Valley Lutheran Village, Lewisburg, surrounded by her loving family.
She was born Jan. 28, 1923, in Dry Valley, a daughter of the late Frederick and Edith (Bilger) Reichley.

Maryanne was raised in Selinsgrove in an apartment above her parents' store, The Reichley's Candy and Soda Shoppe, which operated from 1924 until 1947. She had a wonderful childhood with a loving family and many friends.
She graduated from Selinsgrove High School in 1941 and attended two years at Susquehanna University.

Maryanne and her former husband operated a hunting and fishing lodge, The Gables, in Little Currant, Canada, from 1954 to 1967, after which time she returned to Selinsgrove. From 1967 to 2005 she worked as an administrative assistant to the Superintendent of the Shikellamy School system, handling personnel and benefits responsibilities, a position she absolutely loved because she could be helpful to so many people.

Maryanne was loving, resilient, vivacious, glamorous, stylish, hard-working and generous to all she encountered. When asked how someone could repay her for her generosity her response was "sometime you're going to meet someone that needs your help. If you help them, you've repaid me." She loved to ski, sail, and travel with her sisters, Jeanne and Martha and the rest of her family, and play Bridge with her friends in the Selinsgrove area. She was a great admirer of Elvis Presley and loved driving around in her 1983 white Firebird.

She is survived by five nieces and nephews, Susan Kerr Rutkowski and husband Conrad of Rochester, N.Y., Judith C. Ellis and husband Dick of Lewisburg, William Kerr and wife Hana of Wrentham, Mass., Timothy Miller of Bellefonte, and Thomas Miller and wife Nancy of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; and beloved great-nieces and nephews, and great-great-nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Martha Reichley Kerr and Jeanne Reichley Miller; and her two brothers-in-law.

A celebration of life service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 24, at All Saints Episcopal Church, Selinsgrove.

In lieu of flowers, please make contributions to the Susquehanna University Scholarship fund set up for local students: The Fred, Edith and Maryanne '45 Reichley Scholarship Fund.
