Mary's Story

Mary M. Gothel, 92, of Millerstown, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, Sept. 23, 2017, at her home.
She was born at home in Millerstown on Aug. 30, 1925, a daughter of the late Wilbur and Mabel (Brookhart) Cauffman. She was married to the late Clair W. Gothel.

Mary was a 1944 graduate of Millerstown High School. After high school, Mary worked at the Millerstown Hardware store, Benner's Restaurant and as a transportation driver for Greenwood High School.
She was a member of St. Matthew's Lutheran Church, Millerstown where she taught Sunday school for many years. She also attended Niemond's Independent Church, Richfield and Central Baptist Church, Millerstown.
Mary enjoyed cooking and baking and was known for her homemade bread and butter. She also enjoyed gardening, dining out, and loved animals, especially her precious Shih Tzu, Tina.

She is survived by her nine children, John Gothel, Grace Finkenbinder, Bruce Gothel, David Gothel, Mary Kathryn Gothel, Julia Brubaker, Joseph Gothel, Thomas Gothel and Martha Houtz; 23 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; one brother, Lawrence Cauffman; and one sister, Loretta Breon.
She was preceded in death by one daughter, Gloria Elizabeth Gothel; one daughter-in-law, Julie E. Gothel; and three brothers, Robert Cauffman, Otis Gene Cauffman, and a brother in infancy.

Friends and family are invited to the viewing from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the George P. Garman Funeral Homes Inc., 606 N. Front St., Liverpool, and from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at Central Baptist Church, 29 Pines Road, Millerstown, followed by the funeral at 11, with Pastor Ron Berrus officiating.
Burial will be in St. Matthew's Lutheran Cemetery, Millerstown.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made in loving memory of Mary to Niemond's Independent Church, 36964 Route 35, Richfield, PA 17086.
