Mary's Story

Mary Kathryn Goodling, 93, of Paxtonville Road, Middleburg, passed away on Sunday, Sept. 24, 2017, at the Manor at Penn Village.
She was born Jan. 1, 1924, in West Beaver Township, a daughter of the late Ralph M. and Katie L. (Wagner) Zechman. On April 23, 1942, she married Alvin A. "Sam" Goodling who preceded her in March of 1984.

Mary attended Beaver Vocational High School.
For many years she worked with her husband on the family farm at Mount Pleasant Mills. In 1961, they moved to Middleburg. Mary was then employed by Blough Wagner from which she retired.
After retirement, Mary's pastimes were quilting, crocheting, ceramics, and going on bus trips with her friends.
Her pride and joy was her family. She was a great cook and loved hosting family dinners. Her family's favorites were her stuffing and graham cracker pudding. Her church family loved her rhubarb and pecan pies.
Mary was a member of Daniel's-St. Thomas United Methodist Church and served as a Sunday school teacher as well as several other positions for many years.
She will be greatly missed by many family members and a great assortment of friends and neighbors.

Surviving are daughters, Nancy Blazer and Dolores (Bob) Bressler; son, Ronald (Diane) Goodling; daughter-in-law, Deborah Goodling; grandchildren, William (Cindy) Blazer, Robert Blazer, Brad (Elisha) Blazer, Melissa (Scott) Kauffman, Angela (Jacob) Smith, Mary Ellen (Lucas) Bingman, Megan (Josh) Younkins, Mark Dale, Heather (Grant) Guinivan, Keith (Julie) Goodling, Kristin (Joel) Paisley; great-grandchildren, Erica (Dennis) Jefferson, Cory, Larissa, Bobby Jr. and Payton Blazer, Brenden (Emily) Smith, Jessica and Camden Smith, Katy, Reece and Sara Bingman, Kelly (Dave) Castagnetti, Matt Kauffman, Aubrey Guinivan, Kaylin and Erin Goodling, Madison and Cameron Paisley; five great-great-grandchildren; brother, Lester Zechman; brother-in-law, Cletus (June) Clotfelter; brothers-in-law, Gene (Gaye) Goodling, Bob (Barbara) Goodling; sister-in-law, Florence Goodling; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded by her son, Kenneth Goodling in November, 2016; son-in-law, Reynolds Blazer; sisters and brothers-in-law, Mildred and John Arnold, Dorothy and Raymond Mitchell, Erma Clotfelter; and sister-in-law, Helen Zechman.

A viewing will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Hummel Funeral Home, 574 Hill St., Middleburg, and from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday at Daniel's-St. Thomas United Methodist Church, Mount Pleasant Mills, followed by the funeral at 11, with Pastor Deb Dailey and the Rev. Matthew Schuster officiating.
Burial in the adjoining church cemetery.
