Mark's Story

Mark R. "Pinky" Shappell, 94, of 1115 N. River Road, Halifax, passed away on Tuesday, Oct. 24, 2017, at his residence.
He was born in Red Cross, a son of the late Clarence and Lillian (Hoover) Shappell.

Mark was a graduate of the former Herndon High School. He played in the Herndon Band and the former Bonnie Scots Drum and Bugle Corp.
He retired in 1987 from the former Earl Straub Vending after 28 years and later worked part time at Hoover-Boyer Funeral Homes.
He joined the Sunbury Moose Lodge in 1943 and transferred to Millersburg Moose Lodge 59 in 1948. He was Governor of Millersburg Moose from 1956-1957, joined Moose Legion in 1972, received his Fellowship in 1982 and his Pilgrim Degree in 1987. He was the first Pilgrim Moose Lodge 59 ever had. He was a member of the former Jacob's United Methodist Church in Halifax and currently attended Pentecostal Pilgrims and Strangers Church in Halifax.

Surviving are his wife Violet Troutman Shappell and his extended family.

The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday at Hoover-Boyer Funeral Home, Millersburg. Moose services will begin at 11, followed by a funeral service.
Burial will be in Riverview Memorial Gardens, Halifax.
