Marion E. Ernest, 94, of Catawissa, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, Feb. 14, 2018, at Signature HealthCare of Bloomsburg.
He was born Dec. 23, 1923, in Cleveland Township, a son of the late John R. and Lottie (Gotshall) Ernest.
Marion went to a one room school house, the Lawrence School. He served in the Navy during World War II as a Motor Machinist Mate First Class.
He worked for Reed and Kuhn of Elysburg and Dublin and Susquehanna Valley, both of Harrisburg. He spent his entire working career building bridges.
He was a former member of the St. Mark's Lutheran Church, Elysburg, and a former member of the Pack Horse Sportsman Association in Potter County.
Marion grew up on the family farm in Cleveland Township and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He loved to garden and spend time with his family.
He is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, David and Darla Ernest, and one daughter, Kay Linn, all of Catawissa; three grandchildren, Nicole Stiles and husband Fergus, Sarah Derr and husband Brian, and Justin Ernest; one brother and sister-in-law, Carl and Maryanna Ernest, of Berwick; two sisters, Irene Moser of Bloomsburg, and Thelma Williams of Scotch Valley; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his ex-wife, Helen Woodruff Ernest; two brothers, Walter and Howard Ernest; and four sisters, Mary Morrow, Hazel Rhodes, Edna Shultz, and Pearl Bickert.
The family will receive friends from 9 to 10 a.m. Saturday at the Allen R. Horne Funeral Home and Cremation Services, 193 McIntyre Road, Catawissa, followed by the funeral at 10, with Pastor Ryan Reigh officiating.
Burial will be in Ester Furnace Cemetery.
