Lloyd's Story

Lloyd G. Bailey, 85, of Northumberland, passed away on Sunday morning, Jan. 14, 2018, at the Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.
He was born May 5, 1932, in Selinsgrove, a son of the late George P. and Anna L. (George) Bailey. He was married to the former Shirley J. Still who survives.

Lloyd was a 1950 graduate of Selinsgrove High School, and a 1954 graduate of Lock Haven State Teachers College earning a degree in biology, where he had also served as president of the senior class. He had earned additional degrees at Penn State University and Franklin and Marshall University, and had attended San Diego State, Princeton University, Indiana University at Bloomington, and Bucknell University. He served in the Naval Reserves while attending college followed by two years of active sea duty on destroyers.
He began his teaching career at Central Dauphin schools in 1956 and was eventually appointed science department chairman for the District, and athletic director for the junior high. He retired from teaching in 1989 after 35 years in education.
He was a member of Christ United Methodist Church, Selinsgrove, and had recently attended Christ Community United Methodist Church.
Lloyd loved to travel with his wife and their travels included Scandinavia, Alaska, and the western United States. His greatest pride was looking after his grandchildren.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Cathy Ann Coyne, of Lingelstown, and Janine L. Hagan, of Grantville; four grandchildren, Mark and Nicole Hagan, and Brianna and Brandt Coyne; two great-grandchildren, Gabby and Chase; and two brothers, Neil G. Bailey, of Cody, Wyo., and Dr. Nelson E. Bailey, of Selinsgrove.

Family and friends will be received from 9 to 11 a.m. Friday at the V.L. Seebold Funeral Home, 601 N. High St., Selinsgrove, followed by a memorial service at 11, with the Rev. Randall G. Bennett Jr. officiating.
Burial with military honors will be in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville.
