Leon R. Hand Jr., 86, of Sunbury, passed away Saturday, Dec. 2, 2017, at his residence.
He was born July 29, 1931, in Hummel's Wharf, a son of the late Leon and Izora (Yeager) Hand. He was married to the former Shirley Rising who preceded him in death in 2013.
Leon was a graduate of Sunbury High School and served in the Navy on the Franklin Delano Roosevelt during the Korean War.
He was employed as a supervisor at the Celotex Company.
He was a member of the Calvary Tabernacle Church on Island Park, a member of American Legion Post 201, and a life member of the Americus Hose Company
Leon enjoyed hunting and fishing.
He is survived by two sons and one daughter-in-law, Steven and Barbara Hand, and Gary Hand, all of Sunbury; two grandchildren, Rea Ptacin and wife, Chastity and Melissa Musser and husband, Robert; seven great-grandchildren; one sister, Marcella Robbins, of Mountain Top; two brothers,Terry Hand, of Sunbury and Dr. Robert Hand, of Pittsburgh; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by several brothers and sisters.
A viewing will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Jerre Wirt Blank Funeral Home, 395 State St., Sunbury, followed by the funeral at 11.
Interment with full military honors will be in the Northumberland Memorial Park, Stonington.
