Lena's Story

Lena Katie Mattern, 90, of Leck Kill, passed away Sunday, Nov. 12, 2017, at Green Valley Skilled Nursing Center, Pitman.
Lena was born May 3, 1927, in Dornsife, a daughter of the late Katie (Adams) and Levi Paul.
She was married to Raymond Alvin Mattern who preceded her in death in 1995.
Lena attended school in Red Cross and was employed at Dormar Shirt factory in Gratz, retiring in 1989.
She was a member of St. James Lutheran Church Pitman, and a member of its WELCA.
Lena enjoyed quilting, canning, baking, and mowing grass.

Lena is survived by two daughters, Doris, wife of Allen Mattern-Bailey, of Leck Kill, and Kelly Mattern Garner, of North Carolina; three sons, David, husband of Elizabeth Mattern, of Walnutport, Stephen , husband of Linda Mattern, of Leck Kill, and Ronald, husband of Kathy Mattern, of Leck Kill; six grandchildren, Michelle Morgan, Traci Schreffler, Janie Grosselfinger, Julie Mattern, Bryan Mattern and Beth Ann Shaffer; five great-grandchildren, Elizabeth, Carter, Grant, Violet and Scarlet; one sister, Florence Snyder; and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her siblings, Viola Drumheller, Adam Paul, Marie Falck, Mahalia Kahler, Muriel Inkote, Lawrence Paul, Corrine Gaul, Hilbert Paul, Mark Paul, Guy Paul, and Marviana Snyder.

A visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday at St. James Lutheran Church, Main Road, Pitman followed by the funeral at 11, with the Rev. Warren Egebo officiating.
Interment will follow in Jacob's Cemetery, Pitman.

The family would like to thank the staff of Green Valley Skilled Nursing Center for the wonderful care Lena received while she was there.
