Lee C. Shaffer, 89, formally of Northumberland, passed away on Feb. 20, 2018, at his residence in York.
He was born July 13, 1928, in Mandata, a son of the late Lee E. and C. Ellen (Bahner) Shaffer.
Lee was a World War II veteran and later called back to active duty with the Navy during the Korean War.
He was very active with the American Red Cross where he served as the Blood Program Chairman for the City of Sunbury. He was also active in the American Legion where he served as an officer and later Commander. He was employed by Sunbury Community Hospital and Memorial Hospital in York as a medical laboratory technologist and Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, where he was a supervisor in the laboratory until his retirement in 1992. He also served as the Health Officer for the City of Sunbury and Northumberland until his retirement in 2008.
Lee is survived by his wife, Romaine Shaffer; brother, Mark Shaffer and wife Marilyn; son, Michael Shaffer and wife Stephanie; daughter, Stephanie Vought (Shaffer) and husband George; five grandchildren, Drew Shaffer, Nick Shaffer, Joey Shaffer, Adam Walton, Kelly Reider (Walton) and husband Jason; and two great-grandchildren, Kiera and Blake Reider.
At Lee's request, a private service will be held with the family.
The John W. Keffer Funeral Home & Crematory, Inc. is assisting the family.
