Lawrence's Story

Lawrence R. Knecht, 92, of Selinsgrove, passed away on Jan. 27, 2018, at the Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.
He was born June 5, 1925, in Sunbury, a son of the late Lawrence H. And Clara E. (Seal) Knecht.
On June 18, 1947, he married the former Marie A. Sassaman who survives. His passing breaks a 71 year marriage.
Lawrence attended Sunbury High School and enlisted in the Navy during World War II. He returned and attended Susquehanna University. He then worked for Conrail retiring after 34 years of service.
He was a life member of the Selinsgrove American Legion, VFW, and Masonic Lodge 22.
He was of the Protestant faith.
He is survived by his wife Marie Knecht; brother, Franklin W. Seals Jr. and his wife Loretta, of Wrightsville; nephews, Kriss Seal, of Phoenixville, Daniel Sassaman, of Port Trevorton, and niece, Susan Taylor, of Cincinnati, Ohio; and many great-nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by one son, Richard Lee "Dickie" Knecht.
Friends and family may visit from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at the David T. Zweier Funeral Home Inc., 157 Chestnut St., Sunbury, followed by the funeral at 11, with the Rev. Richard Fangmann officiating.
Interment will be in Northumberland Memorial Park, Stonington.
