Kenneth K. Kern, 88, of Northumberland, formerly of Sunbury, passed away on Saturday, Jan. 27, 2018, at 2:18 p.m. at Emmanuel Home, Northumberland where he resided.
He was born Sept. 18, 1929, in Sunbury, a son of the late William and Mabel (Lark) Kern. On Dec. 31, 1954, in Zion Lutheran Church, he married the former Mary G. Grant who preceded him in death on April 16, 2015.
Ken was a 1948 graduate of Sunbury High School and served in the Air Force during the Korean War.
He retired in 1991 from Conrail where he was a freight conductor.
Ken was a member of Catawissa Avenue United Methodist Church, the American Legion Post 201, the Goodwill Hose Company, the Sunbury Social Club, the Masonic Lodge 22, all of Sunbury. He was on the board of directors for the Salvation Army and was a volunteer for the American Red Cross.
He is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, William G. and Donna Kern, of Dundee, N.Y., and Todd A. and Anna Kern, of Sunbury; four grandchildren and their spouses, Lindsey and Chris Koek, Kristin and Christopher Edwards, Christopher and Melissa Kern and Steven Kern; and three great-grandchildren, Aubrey and Owen Koek and Vivian Edwards.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Ray W. Kern Sr.
A visitation with the family will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday at Catawissa Avenue United Methodist Church, followed by a memorial service at 11, with Pastor Scott Koser officiating.
Burial will be in Pomfret Manor Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be given in Ken's memory to Catawissa Avenue U.M.C.
Funeral arrangements are by the Olley-Gotlob Funeral Home, 539 Race St., Sunbury.
