Kathryn's Story

Text size

Kathryn Leitzel, 73, wife, mother, grandmother and dear friend to all, died peacefully on Aug. 18, 2016, at her home, surrounded by her loving and devoted family. She was diagnosed with ovarian cancer in Sept. 2012. She was courageous and strong throughout her battle. Her strong faith and courage gave her and her family the strength they needed during this difficult time.

She was born Jan. 3, 1943, in Lewisburg, a daughter of the late Ernest and Marie (Fairchild) Ritter. She was married to Harry E. Leitzel, and they would have celebrated 55 years of marriage on Sept. 10, 2016.

Kathryn was a graduate of Lewisburg high school.

She began her working career at JPM Company as a secretary. After marrying Harry, she became a devoted wife and mother. When her three children were grown she worked as a waitress at Gary's Farmhouse. She later worked at Dunkin Donuts.

She enjoyed antiquing with Harry and her brother and sister in-law as well as her dear friend Ellie.

Kathryn and Harry were fortunate to have traveled to every state except Hawaii, traveling twice to Alaska.

Anyone who visited their home was able to enjoy her many treasures on display. Kathryn had a fun group of girlfriends she enjoyed playing cards with and going on bus trips.

Kathryn enjoyed being a part of the family of the Journey of Hope, a cancer support group in Selinsgrove, Pa.

Volunteering was Kathryn's calling. She devoted 15 years as a volunteer at Hospice of Evangelical, Lewisburg. She touched many lives during those 15 years. She always felt it was an honor and privilege to be a part of the hospice family at Evangelical Hospital.

Kathryn was a devoted and loving wife, mother and grandmother. Her whole family was able to gather one last time before her death. At the gathering, her grandsons presented their tribute to her in the form of a letter titled "God, Bless our Grandma". In the letter each of her four grandsons read their version of loving memories spent with grandma and pappy while growing up. They thanked grandma and pappy for their contribution to their childhood and their influence on each one of them.

In addition to her loving and devoted husband of 55 years, she is survived by two daughters and one son-in-law, Christine and Abram Koons Jr., Marion Fisher and long time boyfriend Randy Fultz; one son, Jefferson Leitzel and girlfriend Jessica Snyder; four grandsons, Derreck Fisher and wife Brittany, of Kreamer, Nicholas Fisher, of Selinsgrove, Dustin Koons and wife Kirsten, of Charlottesville, Va., and Kaiden Leitzel, Winfield; one brother, Ken and wife Sonja Noll; sister-in-laws, Sandy Ritter and Faye Ritter; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by stepmother, Marion Ritter; three brothers, Ernest Ritter II, Robert Noll, and William Ritter; one sister-in-law, Noreen Noll; and one grandson, Kyler Leitzel.

Family and friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday, August 22, 2016, at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church, Kratzerville, 4298 PA-204, Selinsgrove, Pa., followed by funeral services at 11 with the Rev. Rick White officiating.
