Joseph Murphy, 90, of 366 Sandel Road, Winfield, passed away Friday, Oct. 13, 2017, at Evangelical Community Hospital, Lewisburg.
He was born Jan. 20, 1927, in Lewisburg, a son of the late Joseph L. Sr. and Agnes (Aurand) Murphy. On Aug. 7, 1948, he married the former Betty Jane Kerstetter and together they celebrated 24 years of marriage before her death Oct. 21, 1972.
Joseph was a veteran of the Navy, serving honorably during World War II.
He worked as a steel worker at Milton Manufacturing, retiring in 1983.
Joseph enjoyed socializing and was a member of the Sunbury Elks Lodge 267, the Sunbury Eagles Aerie 503, the Sunbury VFW Post 1532, and the Good Will Hose Company, Sunbury. He was also a life member of the American Legion Post 201, Sunbury.
Joseph loved woodworking in his spare time.
Surviving are two sons, Joe Murphy, of Mifflinburg, and David Murphy, of West Milton; three daughters, Sharon Wright, of Mifflinburg, Rhonda Murphy, of Winfield and Penny Zimmerman, of New Berlin; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was predeceased by a daughter, Nancy E. Murphy; a brother, William Murphy; a sister, Margurite Dreisbach; and a companion of 30 years, Jackie Hippler.
Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Cronrath-Grenoble Funeral Home, South Second and St. Louis streets, Lewisburg, where the funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, with the Rev. James R. Taylor, former Sun Home Hospice chaplain, officiating.
Burial with full military honors will follow in the Lewisburg Cemetery.
The family will provide the flowers and suggests memorial contributions be made to either the Goodwill Hose Company, 500 Reagan St., Sunbury, PA 17801 or to the Union Township Fire Company, 40 Municipal Lane, Winfield, PA 17889.
