John C. Yost, 93, of 495 Locust St., Northumberland, passed away at Sunbury Community Health and Rehab Center on September 13, 2017.
He was born on Aug. 5, 1924, in Shamokin, the son of the late Charles E. and Evelyn (Renn) Yost. He married Jean Bower on March 30, 1946 who passed in 2016.
John was the ninth of 13 children. He graduated from Coal Township High School in 1942. In 1943, he joined the Army serving his country honorably during World War II as platoon sergeant for the 059 Combat Engineers. He saw action in Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, Ardennes and Central Europe.
John was employed as a supervisor/sales for Butter Krust. He also worked for Weis Markets and L'Aiglon. He loved spending time with his family. He enjoyed watching sports, working puzzles, bowling, and reading books about history and the railroad. He enjoyed food, especially desserts and his wife's homecooked meals. He was a member of Faith United Methodist Church and taught Sunday school for decades.
John is survived by his son, Ronald C. Yost, of Northumberland; two granddaughters, Tessa and her husband Matthew Balliet, Nicole and her husband Shawn Colescott; six great-grandchildren, Kyler, Carter, Caden, Kieran, Hayden and Hadley, all of Northumberland; sister, Jane Bruce, of Jacksonville, Fla.; and many nieces and nephews.
John was preceded in death by his parents; wife; infant son, John F. Yost; daughter, Judy L. Yost; six brothers; and five sisters.
Friends and family may visit from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the David T. Zweier Funeral Home Inc., 157 Chestnut St., Sunbury, where the funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Monday, with the Rev. Ronald Troup officiating.
Interment will be at the Odd Fellows Cemetery near Shamokin.
