John Forrest Wendt

John Forrest Wendt, 66, of Selinsgrove, passed away unexpectedly on the morning of July 9, 2019.

He was born June 27, 1953, in Lewisburg, a son of the late John H. Wendt and Madelon E. (Reed) Wendt. Together, he and his wife, Patricia (Swartzlander) Wendt celebrated 35 years of marriage. Even after all of these years, John lovingly referred to Patricia as "his bride."
Many people around Selinsgrove knew and loved John. He was known to many as Moon, Pop Pop, and Pops.

John was a man that enjoyed keeping busy. Many referred to him as hard-working and reliable. After graduating Selinsgrove Area High School with the class of '73, he held various positions. John worked for Sunbury Motors, International Paper Co., as Susquehanna University's athletic equipment manager, Lowe's, and SEDA-COG.

After retiring from SEDA-COG, he continued keeping busy by working as a part time driver for Fremont Automotive where he worked up until his passing. John also had a self-employed painting business. He also helped run Wendt's Lawn Care, and was the PR for the family food truck, 'We Be Cheesin'.

In his younger years, John played flag football for Finn's Hotel, and fast pitch softball for the following: Exxon, Eagles, Finn's Hotel, Sids Suds, A&D Automotive, and Norry Moose. He also coached little league baseball, midget football, Selinsgrove high school and Susquehanna University softball and was also a pitching coach for many softball players over the years.

John's other interests included chain crew for Seals football, attending every sporting event that involved his children and family (even their practices), having breakfast almost daily with his morning crew, and hunting which he gave up for a few years but recently started again. He was looking forward to hunting this year and using his new crossbow. Above all else, he enjoyed hanging out with his family.

In addition to his wife, John is survived by his children, Chad Rice and Nicole, Jodi (Wendt) Jones and Micah, and Bryan Wendt and Emily; his eight grandchildren, Taylor (Rice) Sidler, Madison Rice, Elliah, Aidah, Isaiah, Noah-Luke, and Hosanna Jones, Finn Wendt; two great-grandchildren, Barrett and Thea Sidler; three sisters, Barbara Beaver and Darwin, Joyce Reynolds and Dennis and Ellen Wendt; and two brothers, Donald Wendt and Sandy, David Wendt and Linda.
He was preceded in death by one brother at birth, and brother-in-law, Bruce Bolig.

Friends and family will be received from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, July 17, at the V.L. Seebold Funeral Home, 601 N. High St., Selinsgrove, followed by a memorial service at 8, with Chaplain Sarah Hershberger officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to Selinsgrove Projects, Inc. ( ) P.O. Box 377, Selinsgrove, PA 17870.

I'm so very sorry to hear of John's passing. I met John at SEDA-COG, where he was always a source of warm, cheerful assistance. John was happy to share stories of his family and life outside work, and I know he enjoyed life. He will be missed.

Pat and family,
We were saddened to here of the tragic loss of John. We always enjoyed any time we shared with you, John and Bryan as our families grew up. Whether watching them play ball or just hanging out.
John was an easy man to talk with and respect. We always admired his love of family, work ethic, love of sports. We will miss him.
