John Samuel Graybill, 73, of Sunbury, died Feb. 13, 2018, with his family by his side at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.
He was born Jan. 29, 1945, in Sunbury, a son of the late John and Virginia (Jo) Graybill.
John attended Sunbury High School.
He started working as a carpenter at a young age as well as helping out at his father's junkyard and garbage route in his free time. Earlier in his life he drove truck for Mason Dixon Trucking Company. Later on, he owned various businesses throughout his life time, including an excavation company, a trucking company, and Liberty Electric Company. In 1984, John and Heather opened their last business, Rainbow Motors, a used car dealership in Selinsgrove until he retired in 2012.
He was a member of the Masons, Sunbury.
John had a love of automobiles his entire life. He raced stock cars at Selinsgrove Raceway and watched NASCAR every Sunday. He loved animals and raised cattle, chickens, and horses over the years. He was very fond of his dog, Tony, that was passed on to him from his late mother. He was an avid fisherman and spent a lot of time boating and camping with his family. Later in his life he enjoyed going to the casinos with his wife. During his life, John and Heather enjoyed traveling as frequently as they could.
As John spent much of his life as an entrepreneur, he taught all of his children what it meant to be a hard worker and the true value of a dollar. He instilled the meaning of family in everyone he loved.
John is survived by his wife, Heather L. (Ginck) Graybill. They met in high school and were married on Aug. 10, 1962. He is also survived by his three children, Cathy Poff and husband Ernest Poff, John Graybill, and Jason Graybill and wife Kelly Graybill; eight grandchildren, Jessica Rotzler and husband Joseph Rotzler, Steven Poff, Samantha Poff and fiance Joseph Snyder, Brittany Graybill, John R. Graybill and wife Essie Graybill, Carrie Graybill, Sidney Graybill, and Margo Graybill; and six great-grandchildren, Kamryn Rotzler, Tyler Malone, Zaedyn Rotzler, Brielle Rotzler, Gearran Graybill, and Lilly Poff.
John was preceded in death by two sisters, Shirley Brown and Virginia (Butch) Zeiders.
A viewing will be held from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Jerre Wirt Blank Funeral Home, 395 State St., Sunbury, followed by the funeral at 10:30.
