Joanne Mayes Wilson, 66, of Selinsgrove, passed away peacefully on Thursday night, July 20, 2017, at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York, N.Y.
She was born Nov. 24, 1950, in Akron, Ohio, a daughter of Carl and Elizabeth (Kreidler) Mayes.

Joanne was raised in Pottstown where she graduated high school in 1968. She then matriculated to Mount Union College where she majored in music and elementary education and, more importantly, met her future husband and love of her life, David. Immediately upon graduation, they were married in Pottstown on June 24, 1972.
In 1978, Joanne and Dave moved to Selinsgrove where together they started Dave's orthodontic practice. She then taught preschool at Valley Nursery School before returning to Dave's office as his bookkeeper. All the while she was a doting mother to her two children, Seth and Abbie.
Joanne was an avid traveler having voyaged to five continents and more than 30 countries. She loved music, literature, and was a self-proclaimed "foodie".

Joanne will be deeply missed by her family and friends. She had an infectious love of life, a wonderful sense of humor, a magnetic personality, and an everlasting ability to enrich the lives of those fortunate enough to know her. She leaves behind her beloved husband of 45 years, Dave; her children Seth (Kim) and Abigail (Hamilton); her grandchildren, Julia, Eleanor, and Marelise; her brothers, Richard and David; her German family, Andreas, Steffi, Max and Leo; as well as an incredible group of friends both locally and beyond.

A memorial gathering will be held for friends and family at the Wilsons' home from 2 to 5 p.m. Saturday.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Cycle for Survival, a charity for rare cancer research that Joanne and her family supported throughout her battle. Checks may be made payable to Cycle for Survival, 885 Second Avenue, 7th Floor, NY, NY 10017 and please note that the gift is "In Memory of Joanne Wilson".
