Jo Ann's Story
On Sunday evening, June 11, 2017, with family by her side, Jo Ann (Spencer) Weirick, 57, of Selinsgrove, went to be with her Lord and Savior. She valiantly fought an extended battle with breast cancer.
Jo Ann was born June 20, 1959, in Wurzburg, Germany, the daughter of the late Kenneth A. Spencer Sr., and the late Ruth (Heizenroth) Spencer. On Nov. 2, 1991, she married Ben E. Weirick and her passing breaks a marital bond of nearly 26 years.
She is survived by her husband, and a son, Ian B. Weirick, both of Selinsgrove; brother, Ronald Spencer and wife Melinda, of Ashland; sister, Donna Shipe, of Shamokin Dam; sister, Lucille Dunleavy, of Shamokin; aunt, Alma Klauger, of Weikert; several nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Kenneth Spencer Jr.
She grew up in Ashland and graduated from North Schuylkill High School in 1977. In 1981, Jo Ann graduated from Bloomsburg University with a bachelor of science in business administration.
Earlier in her career, she worked for a Harrisburg law firm of Pepper, Hamilton, and Scheetz. She held various positions in state government working for the PA State Library, the PA Department of Labor and Industry, and the PA Department of Education. She worked as a church secretary and preschool assistant before working for the Union County Housing Authority where she was last employed.
She was of the Baptist faith and was a former member of First Baptist Church in Sunbury.
Jo Ann enjoyed family vacations, loved shopping and of course attending the annual Covered Bridge Festival at Knoebel's Grove. Jo was greatly loved and will be missed by family and friends.
Visitors will be received from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday at the Sunbury Bible Church, Route 11, Northumberland, followed by a memorial service at 11, with Pastor Mike Miller officiating.
Burial will follow at Orchard Hills Cemetery, Shamokin Dam.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Jo Ann's memory to the Sunbury Bible Church, Northumberland Christian School both in Northumberland, or to a charity of the donor's choice.
