Jeffery "Zeke" Leitzel, 64, of Herndon, passed away suddenly, Wednesday, Jan. 10, 2018, at his home.
He was born March 31, 1953, in Lykens, a son of the late Cleo (Kieffer) and Stewart Leitzel.
Jeff was a 1972 graduate of Line Mountain High School. After graduation he worked most of his life in the construction industry, most recently employed by Eagle Ridge Contracting, until his retirement, upon which he enjoyed hunting with his friends, especially during the flintlock and spring gobbler seasons. He looked forward to his annual fishing trips to New York and especially enjoyed socializing with his friends at the Broomtown Boat Club and Herndon Fire Company, where he was a lifetime member.
His other affiliations included the Herndon Masonic Lodge 702, Sons of the American Legion, Lower Northumberland Gun Club and Lower Mahanoy Fire Company. He was also a member of the Pioneer Club at Poe Valley and looked forward to his family vacation which he spent weeks planning to ensure that everyone had a good time, especially his grandchildren.
Of all his accomplishments in life, what he held most dear were his seven grandchildren, ranging in age from 3 to 20. He enjoyed attending the many sporting events of the older ones and babysitting for the three toddlers.
In addition to his wife of 39 years, the former Debra Newman, he is survived by his two children, Erika Koperna and Ryan Leitzel and wife Kira; and grandchildren, Caitlin, Chris Jr., Cassidy and Canyon Koperna and Jayden, Kevin and Nevaeh Leitzel, all of Herndon. Also, two brothers, Kevin Leitzel, of Camp Hill and Rahn Leitzel, of Greencastle; his mother-in-law, Pauline Newman; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his father-in-law, Robert Newman.
Family and friends will be received from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, Jan. 20, followed by a memorial service at noon, at Seibert Church in Herndon. Pastor Brad Hatter will officiate.
A private burial will be held at a later date at the convenience of the family.

The Robert Foust Funeral Home, 841 W. Shamokin St., Trevorton, is assisting the family with arrangements.
