Janet's Story

Janet P. Witmer, 80, of Park Road, Winfield, passed away Thursday, Jan. 18, 2018, at her home surrounded by her family as she made her transition to her Heavenly home.

She was born July 10, 1937, in Ranshaw, a daughter of the late Osborn and Margaret (Barnhart) Cressinger. She was married to the Rev. Dr. Russell L. Witmer who survives.

Janet was a graduate of Trevorton High School.

She and her husband ministered at the Onego, West Virginia, God's Missionary Church. She along with her husband pastored the Lavelle Evangelical Methodist Church for many years. She served as the Outreach Evangelical coordinator for the Lavelle Camp Meeting throughout their ministry at the church. They also produced a weekly radio broadcast "The Holiness Missionary Broadcast" for more than a decade. Janet taught Sunday School in various churches, served as Praise and Worship leader, and Sunday School superintendent, and along with her husband did weekend revivals and tent meetings in the early years of their ministry in several states.

She was a current member of the God's Missionary Church, Sunbury, and a founding and charter member of the Mountain Road God's Missionary Church, Penns Creek.

Her hobbies included traveling to the Holy Land, Syria, Iran, Greece, Egypt, Jordan, and Italy, and visiting the Seven Churches (per Revelations: 2). She was baptized in the Jordan River by the Rev. J.M. Sullivan.

Janet loved gardening, landscaping, and doing puzzles. She loved her children and grandchildren very much, always had a smile, and would lovingly say "It'll all work out Russ" in her comforting way."

Janet and Russ were married on July 14, 1956. She was a true partner and help mate in every aspect of their married life.

In addition to her husband of 61 years, she is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law, Wayne and Linda Witmer, and Dennis and Cathy Witmer, all of Herndon; one daughter and son-in-law, Wanda and Boris Sanchez, of Spring Hill, Fla.; eight grandchildren, Shannon Witmer, Vanessa Spang, Rachel Lenker, Rebekah Stiely, Nicole Schreffler, Christina Witmer, Ashley Lawrence, and Kylee Sanchez; nine great-grandchildren, Keegan Schreffler, Nicholas Snyder, Brendan Jones, Adalyn and Aubree Stiely, Joseph and Cole Spang, Samuel Wayne Witmer, and Landon Dubman; and one sister, Sandra Cressinger, of Sunbury.

She was preceded in death by two sisters, Beverly Bollinger and Mable Schrawder.

A viewing will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 21, at the V.L. Seebold Funeral Home, 601 N. High St., Selinsgrove, and from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday at the Augustaville Wesleyan Church, Route 890, the same church she was married in, followed by the funeral at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Jacob Martin Jr., conference president of the God's Missionary Church, Rev. Ronald Murphy, retired Wesleyan pastor, and Rev. Greg Clendaniel, pastor of the Augustaville Wesleyan Church.

Burial will be in Orchard Hills Cemetery, Shamokin Dam.
