Irene T. Sobotor, 86, of Shamokin, passed away early Sunday morning, Nov. 12, 2017, at Mount View: A Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Coal Township.
She was born March 10, 1931, in Shamokin, a daughter of the late Enoch and Mary (Olsiewski) Pasierb. On June 2, 1951 in the former St. Stephen's Church, Coal Township, she married Louis J. Sobotor, who survives. This year they celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary.
Irene was a lifelong Shamokin resident and was a homemaker.
She was a member of the former St. Stanislaus Church, now Mother Cabrini Parish, in Shamokin, where she was a very active parishioner throughout her life. She was also fluent in Polish and truly enjoyed her church pilgrimage to Poland in 2000.
She cherished the time spent with her family, and was lovingly known as the "social director" of the family. Irene was a kind-hearted person, and was always willing to help anyone in need.
Survivors in addition to her husband Louis, are one daughter, Patricia Keller, of Lewisburg; two sons, Joseph Sobotor and his wife Jill, of Stamford, Conn., and Paul Sobotor, of Landing, N.J.; two grandchildren, Matthew Keller and Chelsea Sobotor; one great-grandson, Matthew Keller Jr.; a loving niece and Goddaughter, Carol Arnold, of Shamokin; one brother, Bernard Pasierb, of Kulpmont; one sister, Catherine Kapturoski, of the Mount Carmel Nursing Center; and nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son-in-law, William Keller; four sisters, Stella Stanitski, Verna Koharski, Martha Olshefsky, and Cecilia Pulaski, and three brothers, Joe, Edward, and John Pasierb.
A viewing will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Stephen A. Chowka Funeral Home, 114 N. Shamokin St., Shamokin. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday in Mother Cabrini Church, Shamokin.
Interment will follow in St. Stanislaus Cemetery, Coal Township.
