Harriet's Story

Harriet C. Blank, 77, of Sunbury, passed away peacefully on Friday, Feb. 9, 2018, at home.
She was born June 29, 1940, in Sunbury, a daughter of the late Alvin L. and Hilda (Fisher) Yeager.

Harriet graduated with honors from Sunbury High School in 1958. After graduation, she attended the Polyclinic Hospital School of Nursing in Harrisburg, and later resumed nursing studies at the Geisinger Hospital School of Nursing. She graduated from Susquehanna University in 1968 with a B.A. in Spanish and substitute teaching high school Spanish classes. She also traveled to Spain several times, crossing the Strait of Gibraltar into Morocco.
Harriet later graduated cum laude from Bloomsburg University earning a B.A. degree in psychology in 1984.
As a child, she loved music and dance. She studied piano for years and played classical music in piano recitals. She took ballet and was the tap dancing leader for dance shows. Also, Harriet played the flute and piccolo in the Sunbury High School Band and later in her church orchestra.
Harriet was a member of Catawissa Avenue United Methodist Church. She had a keen sense and love for our Heavenly Creator. Her philosophy towards life is that we must stand true to God and strive to become a better person, using our talents to the best of our abilities.
She loved hiking the forests surrounding Eagles Mere where she had her vacation home for many years. Harriet was also an avid collector of antique glassware and china.
Most of all, Harriet was a devoted mother and grandmother who lived for and loved her family. She always made holidays and birthdays magical for her children. Her grandson, Danny, inherited her love for cooking and she delighted in eating his many tasty dishes.

Surviving are her three children, David Blank and wife Nicole, Penelope Hupp and husband Bob, of Sunbury, Abigail Nunn and husband Tom, of Selinsgrove; sisters Dolores Hane of Sunbury and Linda Parker of Allentown; six grandsons, Garrett Hupp, Spencer Blank, Connor Hupp, Toby Blank, Danny Nunn, and Aiden Hupp.

In addition to her parents, Harriet was predeceased by three brothers, Ronald Yeager, Richard Yeager, and Jack Yeager and two sisters, June Lindner and Shirley Goodling.

The funeral will be private. Interment will be in Pomfret Manor Cemetery.
