Harold L. Phillips


Harold L Phillips, 92, of New Columbia, passed away into eternal glory on Tuesday, Aug. 6, 2019, at his home surrounded by family.
He was born Feb. 20, 1927, in the Paradise Valley, Turbot Township, Northumberland County, a son of the late John M. and Leona (Hottenstine) Phillips. On Sept. 3, 1948, he married the love of his life, the former Beverly J. Moore. Prior to her death on Sept. 24, 2013, they had celebrated 65 years of marriage.

Harold attended Milton Area High School with the class of 1946. In 2002, he received his high school diploma, presented to him by his grandson Philip Herman who graduated the same night.
He retired after 33 years of service from ACF Industries, Milton. The work that brought him the most joy was on his farm in New Columbia where he lived, raised a family and worked the land for more than 60 years.
A lifelong member of Paradise United Church of Christ, Harold served in many capacities including Consistory President and Sunday school superintendent. He was also a longtime member of the Paradise Cemetery Board. He was a member of Watsontown Lodge 402 F&M and the Williamsport Consistory.
Harold served honorably in the Navy (Seabees) during World War II in the Pacific Theatre. He was a member of the American Legion Post 71, Milton.

Surviving are four daughters and three sons-in-law, Carolyn P. Herman and Connie P. and Greg Aucker, all of New Columbia, Cynthia P. and John Lindner of Columbus, N.J., and Cathy P. and Curtis White of Bluffton, S.C.; eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Preceding him in death besides his wife was one brother, Neil L Phillips in 2003.

In keeping with his wishes, there will be no public viewing.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Aug. 12, at Paradise United Church of Christ, 8105 Paradise Road, Milton with Pastor Doug Schader officiating.
A private burial with full military honors will be held in the Paradise Cemetery.

The family will provide the flowers and suggests contributions in his memory be made to Paradise Church, P.O. Box 252, Milton, PA 17847.

So sorry to hear of the loss of your Father. I worked with Harold in the Pipe Shop at ACF for twenty years. I will never forget the conversations we had about our Christian Faith's. He was a wonderful Christian man and certainly a pleasure to work with.

Perhaps there is a place in heaven where farmers gather to discuss their green hay, tall corn and favorite tractors ... yup, Uncle Harold is there, in good company I might add!

To the Phillips Family--So sorry for the loss of your Dad, Grandfather. He was a wonderful person -always caring for his family and a great neighbor. He will be sadly missed.
