Gloria F. Laird, 89, of 129 N. Third St., Lewisburg, passed away at her home Saturday evening, Nov. 4, 2017.
A native of Union County, she was born July 2, 1928, in Lewisburg, a daughter of the late Joseph and Mary A. (Shaw) Arner. She was married to Robert Stevenson Laird who preceded her in death on June 30, 2001.
Gloria earned a masters of art education from Penn State University at age 74. She had previously earned a degree in elementary education from Bloomsburg and a degree in art education from Penn State University. She taught elementary art at the Milton schools retiring in 1990. Previously she had worked at the Lewisburg National Bank. She was a poll worker on election days for many years.
Gloria was a member of St. Andrews Episcopal Church where she was on the Vestry Committee and the Open Table committee. She was on the committee for both the Lewisburg Triathlon and the Lewisburg Arts Council.
Surviving is one son, Jeffrey, of Lewisburg; five grandchildren, Daniel, of Annapolis, Lindsay, of Davidson, N.C., Robbie, Justin and Rebecca, of Cameron Park, Calif.; and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one son, Bobbie; and three sisters Joannie, Wanda and Betty.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 9, at Rooke Chapel at Bucknell University.
The family will provide flowers and asks that donations in Gloria's memory be made to Fit For Fun, c/o Tara Michaels, 1307 Jefferson Ave., Lewisburg, or to the Union County Public Library, 255 Reitz Blvd., Lewisburg, PA 17837.
Funeral arrangements are by the John H. Shaw III Funeral Home, 801 Market St., Lewisburg.
