Gerald's Story

Gerald K. Folk, 70, of Watsontown, passed away peacefully Thursday, Oct. 12, 2017 at UPMC Susquehanna, Williamsport, with his family by his side.

He was born Feb. 7, 1947, in Goosetown, Delaware Township, a son of the late Ralph and Frances (Folk) Koser. On Oct. 28, 1973, he married the former Sherry Jones, who survives. Together they celebrated 43 years of marriage.

Jerry was a 1967 graduate of Warrior Run High School. He served honorably in the United States Army during Vietnam. Following his time in the service, he worked for Montgomery Mills and Jeraco, Milton. Jerry later worked for 23 years at the Lewisburg Penitentiary, where he was kindly known as "Ernie", retiring in 2004 to work part time at Bee Cee Pro Hardware, Watsontown.

He was an active member of First Lutheran Church, Watsontown.

Jerry was also very active in many organizations in Watsontown, including the Lions Club, where he earned the prestigious Melvin Jones award. He was a lifetime member of the Clyde F. Mowrer American Legion Post #323, Watsontown. Jerry was also involved with the Watsontown Historical Association, and most recently, a member of the Sesquicentennial Committee where he helped plan Watsontown's massive 150 year celebration.

He enjoyed woodworking, visiting estate sales, fly tying and fishing.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, are one daughter, Emily Hamersly and her husband, Richard III, of Allentown; one sister, Nancy Foust, of Howard; his "little sister", Margaret Ann Fry and her husband, Ronald, of Turbotville; and his uncle and aunt, Nick and Eleanor Scorcia, of New York. Jerry will also be remembered by his numerous nieces and nephews as uncle "J"; and also missed by his canine pal, Barney.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by one sister and brother-in-law, Beverly and Carroll Fry; a brother-in-law, Eugene Foust; and his mother-in-law, Lois Jones.

Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Cronrath-Grenoble Funeral Home, 308 Main Street, Watsontown, where a Lions service will be held at 5:45 p.m. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, with his pastor, the Rev. James H. Fladland, officiating.

Burial will follow in Watsontown Cemetery.

The family will provide the flowers and suggests contributions in Jerry's name be made to either the First Lutheran Church, 400 Main Street, Watsontown, PA 17777 or the Watsontown Historical Society, 200 Main Street, Watsontown, PA 17777.

The family would also like to thank the staff and doctors at UPMC Susquehanna, especially the ICU, for their care and support given to Jerry.
