Harriet, Natalie, Rhonda, Christy and families, My heart breaks for all of you in the loss of a wonderful husband, father and grandfather. I have many wonderful memories of family gatherings, with Jerry often serving as “the head instigator.” (However, the title could quickly be assumed by Baird, Tony or Keith at any given time.) Jerry loved life and lived it to the fullest. He impacted the lives of so many in so many ways. In the class room, he was a teacher who commanded respect and made my love for history come alive. Recently, I came across a letter he had written to my Dad in 2011. In this lette...r, he shared the impact Dad had on his life and what a mentor Dad was to him. Upon reflecting on this letter, it was clear the pupil had become the teacher! May God enfold you in his loving arms during this difficult time. Sending love to all.Read more

Where do I begin to express the sense of loss that the family and community of McClure must feel at the passing of such a wonderful man that has meant so much to the students he taught, the athletes he coached and the town he lived in. My friendship with Jerry lasted over fifty years. I first met him when I was thirteen years old and he was coach of theTeener baseball team. I have to admit that he was a pretty tough coach, drilling us on the fundaments, expecting all out effort as nothing less would do. I freely admit that I didn’t like him much back then but little did I know how much of an influence he would have on my life. His coaching made me a better athlete, his teaching made ...me a better student and his friendship made me a better man. I am one of many lives that Jerry touched and I am deeply honored to have known him. I will miss him immensely.Read more

We received the news of Jerry’s passing with sadness. We both have fond memories of him from our years at WSHS. Especially we remember his positive outlook and enthusiasm —and his contagious smile. Our sincere sympathy is extended to his family.

I can not express enough the deep love and respect I had for this guy~ he was a man of truth. I am grateful to have known him--a man of God obviously. A man of integrity entirely. A mentor. A teacher. A friend. The last time I had seen him was at Richard Kline's funeral. We talked. We laughed. I gave him a hug and we went our separate ways---but there will ALWAYS be a special place in my heart with him in it. I thanked him that day for being him. I thanked God for sharing him with me in my life and being part of the shaping and molding of me throughout my high school years at WSHS and beyond. To live is to die; to die is to live.....

Dear Harriet and family: I had the pleasure of getting to know Jerry over the past several years. A better man would be hard to find. Heaven gained a new angel and I will miss his stories and archeological finds. Sending love and prayers to all whose lives were bettered by knowing Jerry. Gone too soon.

So sorry for your loss. I have always considered Jerry a great friend, and always looked forward to seeing him on the many archaeological digs and artifact shows. I remember how deeply he appreciated me finding his hearing aid on a dig in Arkansas. I will always remember his great smile and firm handshake. One could not ask for a better trusting friend than Jerry.

Feeling your sorrow. He was an excellent teacher and I remember his class being my favorite. I also remember when WS won States in soccer. He shared his Indian artifacts with the McClure scouts which everyone enjoyed. I thank you Mr. Botdorf for giving us such precious memories! Much love to the family and prayers of peace and comfort to you all.
