George B. Rine, 84, of Selinsgrove, passed away on his birthday Friday, Sept. 22, 2017, at the Manor at Penn Village, Selinsgrove.
He was born Sept. 22, 1933, in Point Township, Northumberland County, a son of the late George B. and Eva (Mowery) Rine. On Jan. 24, 1980, he married the former Betty J. Beaver who survives.
George attended Selinsgrove High School and was an Army veteran.
He was employed at the family business, Rine's Flower Shop in Selinsgrove his entire life and was the owner and operator from 1970 to 1995 when he retired.
He was a member of American Legion Post 6631 and V.F.W. Post 25, Selinsgrove, Sunbury Social Club, DH&L Fire Company, and the Travelers Protective Association.
George enjoyed computer games, going to casinos, traveling and spending his winters in Florida, as well as mowing his lawn. He had a lifelong love of spending time on the river, and water sports. He was an avid Selinsgrove High School and Penn State football fan.
Surviving in addition to his wife are one son and daughter-in-law, Greg and Dianna Rine, of Freeburg; one daughter and son-in-law, Gaylene and James Showers, of Paxinos; three grandchildren, Shilo Shaffer, Ashley Rine and Caitlin Rine; one great-grandson, Cole Shaffer; and special nieces, Joy Spicher and Janice Bieber.
He was preceded in death by three sisters, Cynthia Urich, Mary Oldt and Ruth Hess.
A viewing will be held on Tuesday, Sept. 26, from 10 to 11 a.m. at the V.L. Seebold Funeral Home, 601 N. High St., Selinsgrove, followed by the funeral at 11 with Pastor Kevin Rathmell officiating.
Burial will be in the Guier "Dry Valley" Cemetery, Winfield, with military honors by Selinsgrove American Legion and V.F.W. posts.
