George R. Hoffman, 68, of Culp Road, Sunbury, passed away Thursday, Nov. 16, 2017, at the Manor at Penn Village, Selinsgrove.
He was born Feb. 5, 1949, in Sunbury, a son of the late Albert and Mary (Kalcich) Hoffman. On Nov. 8, 1969, he married the former Carol L. Force who survives.
George attended Saint Michael Catholic School, Sunbury, and was a 1966 graduate of Shikellamy High School.
Mr. Hoffman was a member of the Iron Workers Union Local 404 working in various locations until disability forced his retirement.
George was a devoted Little League coach for 17 years, coaching the Pirates and also served as a coach for the American Legion Post 44. He was an avid bowler and played on several local leagues.
He had a great passion for hunting and trapping. He loved to hatch and raise various birds including his homing pigeons. He always planted and tended a large vegetable garden.
In addition to his wife of 48 years, George is survived by three sons and one daughter-in-law, Edward A. and Gina C. Hoffman, of Juliet, Ill., Richard L. Hoffman and fiancé Mary C. Brittain, of Mount Pleasant Mills, and Kenneth A. Hoffman, of Sunbury; one granddaughter, Geri; two step-granddaughters, Mahala and Reili; two brothers, Albert Hoffman and companion Barbara, of Lancaster, and Michael Hoffman, of Florida; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Stella Yatko, of Wilkes-Barre, and Mary Alice and Mick Snyder, of Pottstown; niece and nephews, John, Mike, Jeff, Mark, Greg, Eric, Joe and Sue; and was "Uncle Borge" to Melissa, Katie and Randy.
Friends and family may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at the Joseph W. Epler Funeral Home, 210 King St., Northumberland, where funeral services will follow at 7 p.m. with the Rev. Steven Middernacht officiating.
