Fred's Story

Fred R. "Jiggs" Spotts, 84, of Selinsgrove, formerly of Grayson View and Mount Pleasant Mills, entered into rest on Monday, May 15, 2017, at The Manor at Penn Village, Selinsgrove.
He was born Sept. 27, 1932, in Port Trevorton, a son of the late Fred R. and Katie (Hoffman) Spotts. He was married to the late Geraldine M. "Gerry" (Shirk) Kramer-Spotts.

Fred was a 1951 graduate of Selinsgrove High School. He was a Navy veteran serving during the Korean War.
He worked for various contractors including Ritter Brothers, Harrisburg, and Stan Seiple, Sunbury.
He was a member of Botschaft (Grubb's) Lutheran Church, Mount Pleasant Mills, the Middleburg Lodge No. 619 Free and Accepted Masons, Tall Cedars of Lebanon Forest No. 65, Sunbury, the Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite Lodge Council Chapter, Consistory Valley of Williamsport, the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge No. 1173, Selinsgrove, Carpenters Local Union No. 287, Harrisburg, and was a life member of the Freeburg Fire Company and the Veterans of Forgein Wars Post No. 1532, Sunbury.
Fred enjoyed woodworking, hunting, fishing, and his home. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family.

He is survived by two sons, Stephen Sminkey, of Freemansburg and Kevin Sminkey, of Selinsgrove; a stepson, Robert E. Kramer and wife Deborah, of Liverpool, two stepdaughters, Donna K. French and husband Daryl, and Susan L. Arnold and husband Gregory, all of Richfield; one granddaughter, Sarah Sminkey; six stepgrandchildren, Jason French and wife, Jackie, Sonja French and her companion Shain Liddington, Staci Walls and husband Clair, Justin Arnold, Jeremy Kramer and wife Jessica, and Kristen Dobson and husband Adam; 11 stepgrandchildren; two stepgreat-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Fred was preceded in death by three brothers, Ray, Robert, and Franklin Spotts.

Friends and family are invited to the viewing from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, with a Masonic memorial service at 8 p.m. by the Middleburg Lodge No. 619 Free and Accepted Masons at the George P. Garman Funeral Homes Inc., 9366 Route 35, Mount Pleasant Mills. A closed casket visitation will be from 9 to 10 a.m. Saturday at Botschaft (Grubb's) Lutheran Church, 2148 Hoffer Road, Mount Pleasant Mills, followed by the funeral at 10, with Interim Pastor, the Rev. Michael Sigler officiating.
Burial with full military honors accorded by the Juniata Veterans Council will be made in the Richfield Union Cemetery.
