Floretta M. Meiser, 98, of Sunbury, went Home to be with her Lord on Wednesday afternoon, June 14, 2017, at the ManorCare Health Services facility in Sunbury where she was a resident for four and a half years. Previously, she lived with her daughter Sally and husband John for 11 years.
Floretta was born March 29, 1919, in Trevorton to the late Henry and Katie (Shipe) Bowman. On June 20, 1942, she married Richard S. Meiser who went to be with the Lord on April 10, 2001. They were married more than 58 years.
She graduated from Trevorton High School in 1938.
While Richard was in the Army in Europe, 1942-45, Floretta worked at the Champ Hat Factory in Sunbury. When Richard came home, she became a busy, full time housewife.
She was a long time member of Zion Stone Church in Augustaville where she took an active part In the various ministries of the Church. Floretta taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School, was a member of the Ladies Guild, baked and cooked for the annual festivals and terrine dinners.
She was an excellent cook and baker whose meals and desserts would rival any restaurant.
Floretta loved to sew, knit, and crochet. When Sally was going to school, Floretta made most of her dresses and clothes. She also had a great garden and made sure it was weed free.
She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, David R. and Joyce Meiser, of Sunbury; one daughter and son-in-law, Sally A. and John Aumiller, of Sunbury; two grandsons, David and Shaun Meiser; one great-granddaughter, Natasha Meiser; one great-grandson, Damien Meiser; one sister, Theda Riegel, of Kulpmont; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, Richard, she was preceded in death by one brother, Harvey Bowman; and sisters, Mary Bowman, Charlotte Bowman, Alberta Frederick, Dorothy Erdman and Twila Higgins.
A viewing will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Jerre Wirt Blank Funeral Home, 395 State St., Sunbury, followed by the funeral service at 11 a.m.
Interment will be in the Northumberland Memorial Park, Stonington.
