Ethel J. Weise


Ethel J. Weise, 94, of Paxinos, passed away Sunday, July 10, 2016, at Nottingham Village, Northumberland.

She was born Nov. 15, 1921, in Shamokin, a daughter of the late Myrtle (Zerby) and Henry Schlagel Sr.

Ethel was a 1939 graduate of Shamokin High School.

On Dec. 22, 1941, in Alexandria, Va., she married Reynold R. "Rennie" Weise, who died on Jan. 28, 2009. Ethel was a "military wife", having lived and traveled with her husband and daughter to Japan, Germany and Greece during his 27 years of service in the Army..

A homemaker, Ethel also worked at Shroyer Dress, Shamokin, for nine years. She was an active member of Ash Grove United Methodist Church, Paxinos. She enjoyed sewing, canning and cooking. She and her husband Rennie sold their pies and chow-chow at the Farmer's Market in Downtown Shamokin.

She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Karen Baldwin and Gary Scoggins, of Houston, Texas; three grandchildren and spouses, Kimberly and Richard Martinez, of Houston, Robin and Sean Daniels, of Rosenberg, Texas, and Bryan Scoggins, of Houston; six great-grandchildren, Kaitlynn, Connor, Zachary, Collan, Ireland and Christian; a fresh-air child, who was like a grandchild, Elaine Rodriguez; one sister, Hazel Tharp; one brother, Henry Schlagel Jr.; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to her parents and husband, Ethel was preceded in death by three sisters, June, Mae and Dorothy "Dot".

A visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, followed by a Religious funeral service at 1 at Ash Grove United Methodist Church, Route 61, Paxinos. Interment will follow in Northumberland Memorial Park, Stonington.

As an expression of sympathy, the family requests memorial contributions be made to Ash Grove United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 108, Paxinos, PA 17860-0108.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to James Kelley Funeral Home, James F. Kelley, Director, 1001-1005 W. Arch St. at Maple Street, Coal Township.
