Esther M. Hornberger, 90, formerly of "Coonhunter" Middleburg, passed away on Sunday, Dec. 10, 2017, at the Manor at Penn Village, Selinsgrove.
She was born April 5, 1927, in Center Township, Snyder County, a daughter of the late Norman and Elaine (Crossgrove) Loss. On Sept. 1, 1944, she married Russel L. Hornberger who preceded her in death on April 24, 2010.
Esther was a member of the class of 1945 of Mifflinburg High School.
She had been employed at Ebert's 5 & 10 Store, Middleburg, the Middleburg Elementary School as a custodian, and last at Walnut Acres, Penns Creek.
She was faithful member of the New Hope Baptist Church, Middleburg, where she had sung in the choir, was on the prayer chain, and had helped at the church school.
Esther faithfully read her Bible every day. She enjoyed crocheting, playing the guitar, and looking at pictures. At home she enjoyed her flowers and watching the birds.
She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Robert E. and Carolyn Hornberger, of Middleburg; two grandchildren, Troy Hornberger and companion, Lynn Eroh, and Kimberly Redd and husband Steven; two great-grandchildren, Dylan Allabaugh and wife, Allie, and Lauren Allabaugh and companion, Kyle Bettleyon; stepgreat-granddaughter, Caitlin Redd; one great-great-granddaughter, Melody; and Lynn Eroh's son and daughter-in-law, Donald and Tiara Shipe, and their children, Maddox and Delaney.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Mildred Bowersox; and two brothers, Elwood and Robert Loss.
A viewing will be held from 2 to 3 p.m Friday at the New Hope Baptist Church, Route 522, Middleburg, followed by the funeral at 3, with Pastor Aaron W. Rhone officiating.
Burial will be in Glendale Cemetery, Middleburg.
Arrangements are by the Hummel Funeral Home, 574 Hill St., Middleburg.
