Erma J. Hawley, 92, of Northumberland, was called home to her Lord on Saturday, April 29, 2017, at Nottingham Village, Northumberland.
She was born Jan. 3, 1925, in Selinsgrove, the daughter of the late Charles and Ida Beaver. She married George A. Herrold in 1942 and remained a devoted wife until his death in 1965. In 1978, she married Durwood L. Hawley who also preceded her in death in 2015.
Erma was the beloved matriarch of a large extended family known for their joyous holiday get-togethers. She was an excellent cook who loved preparing feasts for family and friends. She never missed a grandchild's birthday or graduation unless poor health dictated otherwise.
She was a life-long member of Christ Community United Methodist Church, Selinsgrove, where she served in many capacities.
She was employed at the Selinsgrove Center as an aid and became lovingly attached to the residents she attended. After retirement, she and her husband "Butch" enjoyed camping, bus trips, and volunteering at the Selinsgrove Relay for Life. They were also a vital part of the Selinsgrove Senior Center for many years, where she was known to play a pretty mean game of Pinochle. Erma was also a member of the Lafayette Chapter 222 Order of the Eastern Star. Above all she was devoted to her God and her family.
Erma is survived by two sisters, Shirley Doyle and Kay Milligan; three children and their spouses, Carl R. and Patricia Herrold, Elizabeth and Joseph Knauer, and Pam and Charles Miller. She is also survived by 15 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her spouses, she was preceded in death by her brother, Charles Beaver; sister, June Long; her sons, George Herrold Jr. and Donald Herrold; and two grandchildren, Lisa Herrold and Todd Herrold.
The family will receive friends from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at Christ Community United Methodist Church, 3939 Park Road, Selinsgrove, followed by a memorial service at 11 with the Rev. Randall G. Bennett Jr. officiating.
Burial will be in Shreiners Cemetery, Selinsgrove. A meal for family and friends will follow at the church.
Contributions to honor Erma's memory may be made to Christ Community United Methodist Church.
Arrangements are by the V.L. Seebold Funeral Home, 601 N. High St., Selinsgrove.
