Events

Erma K. Gass, 104, of Sunbury, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 16, 2019, at Nottinghm Village, Northumberland, where she had lived for the past five years.
She was born June 24, 1914, in Northumberland, a daughter of the late Williaem and Bessie (VanHorn) Shaffer. On Oct. 9, 1937, she married Henry Jacob Gass and after 61 years of marriage he passed away in January of 1998.

Erma loved being a homemaker. She mastered to perfection any project she attempted and kept a spotless home.
She was a member of Catawissa Avenue United Methodist Church, Sunbury. She worked at the voting polls, was active in church activities including Sunday School class meetings and Home Extensions meetings.
In May and June, Erma watched and enjoyed the Kentucky Derby and the next two horse races, sometimes wearing some of her pretty hats. She enjoyed family activities at home and at the beloved "family cabin".

She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Nancy Gass; granddaughter, Susan (David) Sharr; grandson, Scott (Sandie) Gass; five grandchildren, Meghan, Ashley, Samantha, Megan, and Hannah; seven great-grandchildren, Austin, Kori, Jaxon, Georgia, Jade, Llilliann and Madison; and loving nieces and nephews and their families, Lenny Miller, Cheryl Wolfe, Clair Shaffer, Pat Hallenbeck, Marilyn Morin, Bob Magnant and Karen Miller.
Erma was preceded in death by her only child, William C. Gass in 2009; one sister, Vera Miller; and two brothers, John Clifford Shaffer and Charles William Shaffer.

At Erma's request there will be no viewing. A private graveside service will be held at the convenience of the family.

The family gives a special thanks to the staff at Nottingham Village who came in contact with her and to Evangelical Hospice for the gentle care in her last days. We are grateful.

Arrangements are by the Jerre Wirt Blank Funeral Home, 395 State St., Sunbury.
