Emma Grace Benfer


Emma Grace Benfer, 90, of Beavertown, passed away on Thursday, June 6, 2019, at Buffalo Valley Lutheran Village, Lewisburg.
She was born June 17, 1928, in Hartley Township, Union County, a daughter of the late Reuben and Elsie (Trutt) Sheesley. In 1946 she married Park R. Benfer who preceded her in death in 1983.
Grace had been employed at Chef Boyardee in Milton, Kinney Shoe Corp., Beaver Springs, and retired in 1989 from the Middleburg Silk Mill. She had been a member of Christ Community Church in Glen Iron where she served as a greeter. She enjoyed bowling, watching TV, listening to gospel music, and caring for her flowers.
Surviving are two sons and daughters-in-law, Raymond and Penny Benfer, of Beavertown and Ronald and Darlene Benfer, of Beaver Springs; Gladie Shaffer, of Northumberland who she raised and considered a daughter; 11 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren, and 16 great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a son, Frank Benfer; one grandson, one granddaughter, and Gladie's husband, Jeff. Grace was the last of her immediate family and was also preceded in death by two sisters, Olive Sheesley and Meriam VonNeida; eight brothers, Oliver, Harry, Lester, Eugene, Richard, Frank, Charles, and Luther Sheesley and one in infancy.
A viewing will be held from 1 to 2 p.m. Sunday, June 9, at the Hummel Funeral Home, 574 Hill St., Middleburg, followed by the funeral at 2 with the Rev. Nick Smith officiating.
Burial will in Troxelville Union Cemetery.
Contributions to honor Grace's memory may be made to Christ Community Church.

One of the best Aunts anyone could have asked for even though I was Not blood related she treated me just like I was.You were loved by so many including me,I will miss you dearly until we meet again.Love You Aunt Grace always.
