Elwood E. Russell, 93, of West Milton, peacefully passed away while surrounded by his family on Sunday, Sept. 17, 2017, at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.
He was born Oct. 20, 1923, in Lewisburg, a son of the late Paul Albert and Olive Irene (Keefer) Russell. He was married to the former Faylene Swartz for 63 years until her death in 2010.
Elwood attended Lewisburg schools and had served in the Army during World War II.
He had worked for Shippers Car Line, Milton and Bill Reitz Farm, Lewisburg.
Elwood was an avid hunter, fisherman, and enjoyed watching sports. He also enjoyed watching his grandchildren and great-grandchildren grow up.
He is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law Edward Norman and Susan Russell, of Montandon, and Robert Lee and Jonetta Russell, of Allenwood; one daughter and son-in-law, Sandra Lee and Arthur Keister Jr., of Winfield; 13 grandchildren; 18 great- grandchildren; two brothers, Weber Russell, of Sunbury and Donald Russell, of New Columbia; and three sisters, Hazel Swartz, of rural Mifflinburg, Jean Lilley, of Tennessee, and Helen Prah, of Allenwood.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Donna Kay Mack; a son, Elwood Paul Russell; a grandson, Robert Lee Russell Jr.; two brothers, Nelson and James Russell; and five sisters, Aida Mull, Ida Mae Parker, Nancy Powell, Dorothy Russell and a set of infant twin girls.
Friends and relatives will be received from noon to 1 p.m. Friday at the Shaw Funeral Home, 400 N. Front St., Milton, followed by the funeral at 1, with the Rev. Dale Hippensteel officiating.
Burial with military honors will follow in Milton Cemetery.
Memorial contributions in Elwood's memory may be made to the charity of the donor's choice.
