Elsie E. Gilchrist, 93, of Northumberland, formerly of Trevorton, passed away Monday, June 27, 2016, at Nottingham Village Nursing Center Northumberland.
She was born July 8, 1922 in Coal Township, a daughter of the late Stanley and Mary "Mamie" (Gover) Harrhy. On April 13, 1940, in Trevorton, she married John J. "Buckets" Gilchrist who preceded her in death on Feb. 14, 2002.
Elsie was a lifelong resident of Trevorton and attended Coal Township schools.
She was employed by the local garment industry.
Elsie was a member of Trevorton United Methodist Church where she played the piano for many years, and attended the Augustaville Wesleyan Church, Paxinos, and a member of the Trevorton Senior Action Center. She also served Meals on Wheels for several years.
She is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Peggy and Carl Cook, of Northumberland, and Diann and Robert Ferry, of Route 225, Shamokin; six grandchildren, Teressa Garrison, Susan Diaz, Penny Lenig Zerby, Michael Cook, Kenneth Cook and Barb Cook; 14 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by an infant sister, Martha Harrhy; and one brother, William S. Harrhy.
A viewing will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday at the Robert G. Foust Jr. Funeral Home, 841 W. Shamokin St., Trevorton, followed by the funeral at 1 with the Rev. Ronald Murphy and the Rev. Gregory Clendaniel officiating.
Burial will be at a later date.
