E. Roland Ritzman, of Lewisburg, became a resident citizen of Heaven on July 19, 2016, at Evangelical Community Hospital. (But our homeland is heaven, where our Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ is... Philippians 3:20, The Living Bible.)

He was born in Pennsylvania, a son of the late J. Elmer and Susie Ritzman. He married his high school sweetheart, Nancy LaRue, who survives him. They would have celebrated 67 years of marriage in August.

He graduated from Coal Township High School and shortly thereafter went into the U.S. Navy as an enlistee where he proudly served as a radar operator aboard ship in the Pacific Theater of World War II.

E. Roland earned a BA degree from Houghton College, N.Y., an MA degree from the University of Chicago, and a D.Ed. degree from Rutgers University. His career as a counselor was spent in secondary schools in Virginia and Pennsylvania; in a University in D.C.; and a community college in suburban Philadelphia. He chaired and served on numerous committees while employed in these educational institutions and held offices in professional organizations including the presidency of a teachers organization and presidency of county guidance associations in both Virginia and Pennsylvania. He was a member of many professional organizations.

In the community, E. Roland was actively involved for many years in both educational and musical programs of the churches he attended. For much of his life, hiking and long distance biking were avid pursuits.

Singing from the time he was a youth, E. Roland sang in various groups throughout his life-time including choirs, quartets, music theater and men's groups. In more recent years, he sang with the Buffalo Valley Singers as a soloist in programs in retirement communities and as a soloist at First Presbyterian Church in Lewisburg, where he and his wife regularly attended. He had retrained his membership at First United Methodist Church in Lancaster, PA, where he had previously lived.

In addition to his beloved wife Nancy, E. Roland is survived by his dear daughter, Rolanda Ritzman and husband Gary Kendall; one sister, Georgina and husband Henry Renn; as well as many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

He was preceded in death by one brother and sister-in-law, Lamar and wife Mary; and one sister and brother-in-law, Marilynn and husband Peter Benick.

Friends and family may call from 10 to 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Lewisburg First Presbyterian Church at 18 Market St., followed by the funeral with CLP Robert Kribbs officiating.

Burial will be in Northumberland Memorial Park at the convenience of the family.

Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the John H. Shaw III funeral home of Lewisburg.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Deacons Fund (a fund to aid the distressed and afflicted) at First Presbyterian Church at 18 Market St., Lewisburg, PA 17837.
